Independent Superstars 🌟

Wow, wow, wow! All of our brilliant β€˜Birch’ boys have amazed us this week with their independent skills. They are doing extremely well when entering the classroom. Putting their coats in the lockers, along with their bags, and sitting down to complete fine motor skills tasks. They have established solid routines and we are all so proud.

Work Station Success

The boys are now completing more tasks, independently, in their work stations. They are engaged in their work tasks for up to 10 minutes and remain focused until all tasks are completed. They really are superstars!

Sensory sensations

We have had some wonderful experiences in the immersive room this week. Gabriel, especially, had the most fantastic time. He was relaxed, very happy and enjoyed every minute!

Always we have the best time during our PE sessions. Lots of running, stretching, rolling, jumping, balancing and a gentle relaxation to finish!

Independence is something that we work on daily with our boys, and they are making good progress with this. In particular, navigating around the iPad is proving to be a huge success. The boys choose their activities independently and work through them quietly and successfully. They are totally amazing.

Music with Bev

We end our week with our fabulous music sessions. The boys enjoy exploring the instruments and really get into the rhythm of things. We have so much fun too.

Until next week.

Take care, Team Birch 🌳🌸🌳

Happy Half Term 🌸

Where has the time gone? We have had a very busy and enjoyable half term and have so much to look forward to when we return.
Have fun looking through the activities we have done in Birch class this week.

We have celebrated Chinese New Year, the year of the dragon! Exploring Chinese foods, traditions and of course, we had a visit from a Chinese dragon! The boys really enjoyed watching the dragon parade through the school corridors and classrooms.

PE was very energetic. We danced, jumped, ran, walked, bounced and rested.
Well-being sessions with lots of calming music and bubbles are a great way for our boys to reset and recharge.

We hope you have a lovely half term.

Take care,

Gail, Elisha, Jodie, Lauren and Kerrie 🌸🌸🌳🌸🌸

Birch Brilliance 🌟🌳🌟

Our Birch boys have blown us away this week with the progress they have made on their independent skills. We have had lots of outside time, working on our social skills. Sharing equipment with our peers and using the equipment independently.
The boys have been cleaning their teeth like superstars in our life skills sessions, applying the toothpaste to the toothbrush and following instructions carefully.

We have been very active this week too. Using the bikes, outside, and moving around the hall, independently, in PE sessions.

Music was a masterclass! We have introduced the Chinese New Year and celebrated this in style.

We hope you enjoy scrolling through the gallery below of our amazing week.

Have a lovely weekend.

What an amazing week we have had! Our new bikes arrived and we have certainly made the most of it. The boys are getting used to wearing the safety helmets (and the staff πŸ˜€) and using our new equipment. We shall have regular use of the bikes so watch this space for more playground fun.

Swimming was a splash sensation! We had extra fun with the giant ball, giant tea pots and floats. Our boys are extremely confident in the water and happily complete their water skills tasks. We are so proud of them. πŸ’¦

and more…

and finally…

More gymnastics this week in PE, lots of rolling, stretching, balancing, walking and jumping.

Technology was enjoyed by all. The boys are now confident in navigating around the iPad to select their preferred maths game. πŸ“±

Ice Worlds is coming to life in Birch class. The sensory tuff trays have been going down a treat!

In early maths sessions we have focused on counting quantities of objects and recognising numbers to 5. The boys were fantastic and made us all very proud with their counting skills.

Well-being was wonderful, as always. Relaxing with our friends, listening to calming music, low lighting and enjoying having hands and feet massaged.

Marvellous Music, with Bev. 🎢🎢🎢🎢

Our Oakwood Champion this week, for being β€˜tolerant,’ is Gabriel. Gabriel tolerated wearing a safety helmet while riding on our new bikes. Well done, Gabriel. 🌟

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

Our well-being sessions were a hit, as always. The boys really do enjoy to relax, recharge, reflect and have their hands and feet massaged. The calming music and low lighting is extremely therapeutic and all of our boys participate in these sessions brilliantly.

Music was fantastic! We had so much fun making different sounds and rhythms on the drums. Loud, quiet, fast and slow, all the boys had a go. 🎢πŸͺ˜πŸŽΆπŸͺ˜πŸŽΆ

Happy New Year 🌸

Firstly, we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

It has been great having the boys back at school and settling straight back into their routines, effortlessly. They have enjoyed a quiet and relaxing first week back, focusing on our new topic β€˜Ice Worlds.’

We have been introducing the boys to some arctic animals, in particular the polar bear! This gained their attention immediately and was a really nice way to begin a topic.

Look at our boys working hard to create a textured polar bear. Developing their fine motor skills whilst having fun.

The boys also enjoyed creating a snow fox. In art, our focus this term is printing and textures so we used a fork to print the fur onto card. The results are amazing!

Ta da….

In maths, this term, we are focusing on shapes. 2D shapes are where we are starting so what better than making shape prints in foam. The boys are exposed to shapes, and their properties, whilst getting messing in the foam.

It was fantastic to be back at the Walsall Wood Campus for our half termly swimming sessions. The boys had a β€˜splashing’ time and thoroughly enjoyed floating, manoeuvring around the pool and generally having lots of calming fun.

Our focus in PE this term is gymnastics. We shall be enjoying lots of balancing activities, rolling on the mats, stretching and jumping. This week we gently eased ourselves into gymnastics with a free flowing circuit.

Music with Bev was all about emotions through colour and sound. We had so much fun using the Boom Whackers!

Finally, our Oakwood Champion this week is Kealan. Kealan had an amazing swimming lesson this week. He worked really hard with Kerrie, allowing her to manoeuvre him around the pool on his back. Well done Kealan, you’re a star.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Merry Christmas everyone! πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŒŸπŸŽ„πŸŽ„

What a wonderful time we have had this week. Christmas crafts with our amazing parents was great, thank you for joining us in Birch class. The boys enjoyed creating beautiful Nativity suncatchers, making packets of reindeer food, decorating baubles, making paper chains and colouring!
We hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did.

It is always a pleasure to have you join us in school.

Look at the Nativity scenes we all made together. They turned out brilliantly. 🌟

Our final week of term looked like this …

…We had a special visitor at Oakwood school! The boys were very brave and enjoyed a little chat with Father Christmas. He knew they had all been fantastic this year and wished them a very, Merry Christmas. πŸŽ„πŸŒŸπŸŽ„

Our Christmas sign along performance was a singing and signing sensation. How wonderful it was to have the Mayor and Mayoress join us with the festivities. It was also lovely to have some parents join us too, we had so much fun.

What an amazing final week of the Autumn term. We have achieved so many successes and had so much fun.

Our Oakwood Champion this week is Joshua for his excellent understanding of emotions! Joshua can use facial expressions to show the emotions sad, happy, scared and surprised. Well done, Joshua. πŸ˜€β˜ΉοΈπŸ˜¬πŸ˜³

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. πŸŽ„πŸŒŸπŸŽ„πŸŒŸπŸŽ„

Take care and enjoy making precious memories with your beautiful families.

Gail, Jodie, Elisha, Lauren and Kerrie 🌳

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas πŸŽ„

We cannot believe the end of term is almost here, where have the weeks gone?

With all of the Christmas activities that we shall share with parents next week, we have been working hard in Birch class to make it an extra special time.
We hope you enjoy looking at our amazing week!

Nativity 🌟 As we have been looking at the Christmas story this week we thought it would be good to make some art work to show our understanding. Look at our amazing Nativity scenes.

Music 🎢 Strumming the guitar as we are welcomed into the music room is always a great way to start the lesson.

More music 🎢 We had so much fun playing the drums to the Christmas songs that we have been learning. The boys really do try so hard.

PE πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ The boys are beginning to tolerate being in each other’s personal space, which is fantastic. Stretching, rolling and being kind to our peers!

and more action!

We have focused on number work in our tuff tray activities this week and the boys were brilliant at counting out the objects correctly. 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣4️⃣5️⃣

Also, we worked on our fine motor skills. Catching the fish was so exciting!

Cooking was a real treat. The boys got to taste and decorate some yummy fairy cakes.

and more from cooking…

All of our boys have excelled with their communication this week so they are all Oakwood Champions.

Look at them eating their Christmas Dinner. It was a great time and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Well done boys.

Have a lovely weekend.

Brilliant Birch Boys 😊🌳😊

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Birch class. πŸŽ„πŸŽ…πŸŽ„

We have had so much fun practicing our Sign Along Christmas songs this week, we can’t wait to share them with you.
We have been learning about the change in seasons, from Autumn to Winter, and the change in the weather. ❄️

Our Christmas craft activities have started already! Look at our amazing Christmas trees. We used our fine motor skills to decorate the β€˜Hand’ Christmas tree to make it sparkle.

Early writing for our boys is going from strength to strength. They are being encouraged to think about simple sentences. We use the strategy Colourful Semantics which is colour coded blocks of words that are used to build/structure a sentence. The boys are doing really well and have lots of fun with this strategy too.

PE is great for our boys to really get moving. We have had a β€˜Dance’ focus this term and have seen some fantastic moves from all of the boys. They enjoy using the equipment too. We always have a good workout in these sessions. 😊

And more PE fun…

Relaxation and well-being time is something our boys are masters at. Switch off the lights, turn on the disco ball lights, play some calming music and relax on a bean bag. They really do get so much from these sessions.

In technology, this week, we looked at some sorting activities. The boys were great at sorting objects into groups on the iPads. This linked in with our Maths targets as well as targets for independent learning. We were so proud of the boys ability to engage in these activities and work independently.

In English we are also focusing on making a list. We had so much fun looking through catalogue’s and selecting toys we would like for Christmas. The boys chose their toys and made Christmas lists. They were brilliant!

We had a Christmas song rehearsal in music, after a strum on the guitars. We had fun playing bells and drums to the Christmas songs and also managed to have a little dance too.

And the drums…

Our Oakwood Champion this week is Jayden. Jayden has coped very well with some changes that are happening around him. We are so proud of his attitude to learning. Well done Jayden, you’re a star! βοΈπŸ†βοΈ

Have a lovely weekend.

Team Birch 🌳😊🌳

Hello December ❄️

We are super excited to start exploring the Winter season in Birch class and we have certainly experienced some cold weather to make an icy start! Watch this space for our wonderful, winter activities.

Technology was introduced this week and our boys enjoyed exploring some interactive maths games on the iPads. They were engaged and focused throughout the session and used amazing listening skills. We shall look forward to more technology sessions.

Everyday we have sensory experiences waiting for the boys to explore. They really enjoyed walking the farm animals on the crispy, crunchy leaves. Also, pouring and filling cereal in and out of cups was a huge hit this week, the boys had so much fun.

Continuing with our topic β€˜People who help us in the community’ we learned about the role of a Police Officer and how they help us in and around the community. To end the session with some fun craft time, we made some great collage Police helmets.

Before cooking, this week, some of the boys enjoyed a role play activity and experienced being a chef for a while. It was wonderful to see the boys having fun with their peers. Role play is always a success with them.

As always, we have to squeeze in some relaxation time as our boys work so hard. Look at how calm and peaceful they all were. These moments are so essential for the boys to regulate and reset their emotions. They are also very well deserved sessions too!

Our interventions are going extremely well, the boys are engaged, focused and happy. These sessions are so important for the boys and the progress they are making is good.

Look at our fantastic Kealan enjoying his 1:1 intervention. 🌟😊🌟

Our Oakwood Champion this week is…EVERYONE!

We have had a few changes in Birch class, recently, and the boys have managed extremely well. We said goodbye to Becky and welcomed Kerrie. We are so proud of our boys. 😊

Have a lovely weekend.
