Hi everyone this is a quick catch-up of our activities in the Bumblebees classroom before we broke up on Friday.

We did some super counting and 3D shape work, including exchanging some coins for currant buns (or large chocolate buttons, which we used here). Some of us then chose to investigate independently, which is fantastic.

We also came to the end of our swimming sessions, which will begin again after Christmas. We are sure that you will be as delighted as we are at the fantastic progress made by our Bumblebees in just a few short weeks.

Bumblebees had a fantastic Friday when we dressed up as animals, and took part in the whole school Walk-a-Thon around the big playground. Thank you for supporting us with costumes, etc.

We will be continuing with our animal kingdom theme after half term. Our next story/song to complement our activities, particularly as we are going to start visiting the wonderful Forest School at Rushall, will be The Gruffalo. We will be putting this onto our Blog, as well as giving you more details about the sessions.

Holiday Homework: if you can get out for local walks, it would be lovely to see some photos, which you can send to us at postbox@oakwood.Walsall.sch.uk, or perhaps you could collect some leaves, fir cones or twigs?

This week within the Bumblebees class, we have been celebrating Harvest. Our Bumblebees have really enjoyed exploring different foods and potato printing.

During our music sessions, we have been listening and learning key Makaton signs to the song ‘Thank You God for the Harvest‘. Our Bumblebees enjoyed exploring musical instruments alongside listening to the song.

Please Note – on Friday 22nd October we shall be celebrating the end of Animal Boogie by having an animal themed party. All Bumblebees’ staff will be dressed up as animals and we would like to invite our little Bumblebees to get dressed up as well, as an animal of their choice.

‘Down in the Jungle, come if you dare. What can you see shaking here and there?’

This week we introduced our Bumblebees to our focused story song ‘The Animal Boogie’ – by Barefoot books.

Our little Bumblebees have enjoyed looking at the soft animals, masks and images, whilst watching the song.

We even tried decorating our own masks this week, developing our focus, good sitting and good looking skills.

Our Bumblebees also enjoyed making Zebra patterns with foam and black food colouring.

Every fortnight we focus on a letter sound as part of our Communication & Language development . This week we introduced our Bumblebees to the letter sound B!

We’ve looked at different objects that begin with the letter B and enjoyed looking at the colour Blue.

On Friday we held a cake & coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan.

We love cake in Bumblebees, so the grown ups didn’t need much persuading to donate and eat cake.

Our little Bumblebees also love cake, so they very much enjoyed a cake themed filled day.

We developed our hand/eye coordination, fine motor skills, focus and communication through painting and decorating cakes.

Our Bumblebees were able to choose which colours they wanted by grabbing and pointing, they also were able to communicate ‘finished’ by pushing the dabbers and rollers away.

All children did some good looking at the resources and gave each themed activity a try.

But, as you can imagine, they enjoyed eating the cakes even more!

It was a lovely day, focused around a wonderful cause.

We hope you all enjoyed the cakes your littles ones decorated and brought home.
