Noisy Circus

This week at school we have enjoyed listening to the story ‘Noisy Circus’ and recreated circus sounds as we read each section of the story. We concentrated on the associated letter sound ‘n’ and helped recognise different objects beginning with the initial letter sound as well as recognised a range of noisy noses.
We amazed our staff with our acting skills as we role played important events in the story and helped sequence the main stages in the correct order. Throughout our story we became familiar with custard and enjoyed following a simple recipe to make our fruit flans.
During this week we have visited the circus shape tent and used our awareness of shape properties to help recognise the described 2D shape. We have used different amounts of sides and corners to help construct our own shapes as well as using playdough to mould our own shapes.
During our topic afternoon we used a range of circus dressing up items and props to help us change our own appearance and evolve into a new circus character, providing simple descriptions. Swimming was our favourite session this week as we had lots of fun using our circus balloons to support us with develop our own individual swimming skills on both our front and back.

Litter Picking Workshop

On Wednesday we took part in a ‘litter pick workshop’. We learnt about the importance of picking up and recycling our litter and how it is turn into something new when we recycle our ‘paper / cardboard, plastic and metal’. During the workshop we put on high vis jackets and gloves then used litter pickers to help collect and tidy up all the rubbish in our school hall and outdoor playground. We were all fantastic in sorting the rubbish into the three recycling material bins ready to go to the recycling centre.

Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese New Year Everybody! We began our celebrations by decorating our classroom with a range of red decorations to represent ‘good luck and joy’. This week in story time we have listened to the famous story ‘Peppa’s Chinese New Year’, we then used objects, picture and symbol words to help complete a range of crafting activities. We made some wonderful paper lanterns, Chinese hats and even Chinese fans. As a group we found out that it was the year of the ‘rat’, we enjoyed dressing up and making stain glass window rats for our classroom. During the week we watched video footage of a dragon and lion dance and then using our creative minds we constructed our own dancing dragon and performed as part of a group. In our cooking session we used ingredients to make our a very yummy stir fry as well as some of our friends tasted different Chinese foods and recorded our likes and dislikes. We finally ended our Chinese New Year celebrations by using our mark making skills to produce some wonderful red and gold paint and glitter pictures.

Busy Butterflies

We have a super busy week in butterflies 🦋. During our physical activities we have concentrated on building our individual skills with travelling and swimming on our fronts using necessary aids. In P:E we continued with developing our ball skills as we worked independently with bouncing and catching a ball using two hands and gradually some of our friends progressed onto using only one hand. Well done everybody!
This week our focused story was ‘The Foskett Family Circus’, we concentrated upon the sound ‘f’ using our water spray to fire the letter ‘f’ flowers and identified objects beginning with the sound. We also helped match the upper and lower case circus lettering and had fun making a circus dictionary. During the week we have amazed our staff with our shape recognition and as we worked in teams we explored their properties by making human shapes and counting how many sides.
The highlight of our week was making our very yummy ‘Popcorn cupcake’. Some of our friends collected our ingredients from the local shop and then we followed a simple recipe to bake our cakes, finally we independently decorated them with one of our favourite treats, popcorn.

Our Class Pet!

This week in school we have welcomed our new class pets. On Monday morning we set up our fish tank ready for the arrival of our two fish. We were extremely excited to meet our pets and we worked as a team to pick the names ‘Ruby’ and ‘Dory’. Each day we have taken it in turns to feed our pets and to make sure they are happy and healthy. We can not wait to keep you updated on how they get on in butterfly class.

The Circus is coming to Town!

Roll Up Roll Up! This week in butterflies we have been introduced to our new topic ‘The Circus is coming to Town’. We have enjoyed constructing our own ‘big top tent’ and experienced what it was like sitting inside. We even made our own tent design pictures using a range of sensory materials to help us. During the week we practiced and developed our cooking skills further by following a recipe to create and decorate our own ‘circus tent biscuits’. In P:E we showed our teachers our amazing ball skills and even completed some rolling and passing tricks, which we are looking forward to continuing next week. We have had a super first week back at school and can not wait for more circus fun next week.

Father Christmas

Butterflies have been extremely busy sharing ideas with each other about what they would like for Christmas from Santa. We then cut out pictures and symbols from magazines and catalogues to make our own Santa wish list letter. We even used our writing skills to record important information such as our name. Our class Elf finally delivered our letters to the North Pole to Mr and Mrs Santa Claus.

On Thursday we could not believe who arrived at school on his sleigh. It was Santa.
We all had chance to meet Santa and tell him all the amazing things we had done in class. We even found out from his Elf that we all were on the ‘good list’ in Butterflies. Well Done Everyone! We finally receive a special present and said goodbye to Santa, promising him we will leave him a mince pie and glass of milk on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Crafting Morning

On Wednesday we had a wonderful time during our Christmas Crafting morning. Many family members joined us and took part in all our snow themed activities. We enjoyed making paper plate snowmen, bottle snowmen, and cut out glittered snow flakes. We also made some very yummy marshmallow snowman biscuits. During our activity morning we even had a great time playing in the sensory snow tray, as well as enjoyed a yummy mince pie or Christmas cake.

We all joined in our Christmas sing along to some of our favourite Christmas songs with our families.

Thank you to all that attended we had a fantastic time!!

Christmas Time!

When we arrived to school on Monday we found a very special delivery under our class Christmas tree. Guess who it was? It was Santa’s Elf and a Santa cam. As a group we have given him the name ‘Jay’ and each day we have found him up to mischief in our classroom such as decorating our Christmas tree with tissue and building towers with our cups and bowls in the sink etc.
Each day we wrote a special message back to Santa to tell him something good we have done. During this week we have also learnt about ‘advent’ and create our own Santa calendars. Our advent calendars will help us count down each day to when Santa will arrive and when we will celebrate the birth of baby Jesus. We also had a very yummy class chocolate advent calendar to open each day, amazing our staff with recognising the correct date.

The National Adventure Farm – Christmas Visit!

On Thursday we all took part in a fun festive visit to the National Forest Adventure Farm. We went on a magical Christmas journey to the North Pole where we meet Father Christmas and his friends. We had a great time walking through the magical forest to the Elf Workshop, where we helped sort letters and parcels for Father Christmas. During our trip we had chance to visit the Ice Cave where we meet our interactive talking Polar Bear. We also collected magic dust from the Northern Lights to make Father Christmas’s sleigh fly. Our favourite part of the visit was when we met the real Father Christmas in his Grotto; we were given a early Christmas present before we headed back from the North Pole to the soft play area. We finally ended our visit as we listened to the story of the Nativity in the barn alongside all the farm animals. What a fantastic Christmas trip out!
