Wow! What a wonderful year it has been, it has been a pleasure to teach you all. We have become a little family in Deers and made some fantastic memories with each other. Well done for all your hard work, engagement and for being amazing! We have learnt so much this year and we have loved Geography, History and Science lessons! We have loved going out on community and exploring the wider world. It has been an adventure we will never forget! ⭐️

We are so proud of you all Deers, you are all incredible and have achieved so much and have created beautiful friendships. ✨😊

Class Trip to Twycross Zoo and Oakwood Family Festival! ⭐️

We have had a very busy week in Deer Class! We have lots of amazing of pictures to show you including our time at the Zoo and our Oakwood Family Festival! You may even see a Grufallo! ⭐️

Our trip to the Zoo was an incredible experience, we loved spending time together in a new environment. We were so excited and we did lots of preparation for our class trip! We enjoyed our bus journey there, where we discussed what animals we were looking forward to seeing! We walked around the Zoo showing wonder and awe which was amazing to see our pupils so immersed in the learning environment. We spent time observing the animals and learning facts about them and applying our knowledge we had learnt in lessons to conversations. We have loved our “African Safari” topic this term and it was wonderful to see this topic in action! It was a trip we will never forget, we loved every minute! We had a lovely picnic in the sunshine too! ☀️ We went to the butterfly house where we learnt lots of facts and were close to some beautiful butterflies, our pupils were fascinated! We also met the Grufallo! This was a lovely experience as we all love this story in Deer Class! Deer team are so proud of our amazing Deer pupils, it was a wonderful experience and we are incredibly proud of everyone! ⭐️

We loved our Oakwood Family Festival! We had so much fun making precious memories with our families! We participated in lots of amazing and exciting activities such as African drums, hook-a-duck, face painting, games and circus tricks. We also went on a hunt to find the Grufallo! We loved being outside sharing special times with our friends and family, it was a fantastic event. Deer Class thank everyone who made this magical day happen! ⭐️

In magic bucket this week we engaged beautifully, making some fantastic vocalisations. It is amazing to see our pupils wonder and curiosity during these sessions. We love magic bucket time! ⭐️

Our Champion this week is Andre, Andre has amazed us with his fantastic engagement at the zoo, the family festival and swimming! We are so proud of Andre! You are incredible! ⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨

Happy Birthday NHS! ⭐️

We have had a super week in Deer Class, we have enjoyed spending time together and creating some fantastic achievements! We are so proud of all our amazing Deer pupils! 🦌⭐️🏆

This week we celebrated the NHS Birthday! We learnt about our wonderful NHS, it’s history, purpose and meaning in society. We learnt about all the different job roles within the NHS, such as Doctors, nurses, paramedics, cleaners, cooks and much more! We talked about the role of each of these jobs, and how important they all are. It was amazing to celebrate all those who work incredibly hard to keep us safe and healthy. We wrote a thank you letter in our books to express our gratitude. 👩‍⚕️🧑‍⚕️🏥🩺🩻

In science we continued our work on “pushes and pulls” and we learnt about “forces and magnetism”. During the session we explored magnets, experiencing forces in action. We talked about objects that are attracted to metals and objects that repel. We sorted these through practical activities. We looked at iron fillings, metal and a compass to experience the force. This was a fantastic experience for our pupils, they enjoyed getting involved as scientists! 🧪🧑‍🔬👩‍🔬🧬🔬🔭🥼🧲🧭

Our Champion this week is Jayden! Jayden’s talking has been beautiful, his intercations with his adults and peers have been fantastic! Jayden enjoys making everyone smile! ⭐️ Jayden also blew us away with his growth in confidence in the water this week! Jayden showed trust and resilience in the water. Jayden certainly hit some swimming achievements this week! Well done! We are so incredibly proud of you Jayden! ⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨

Football Fun! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿❤️⚽️

This week we had a lovely day celebrating the Euros 2024. We learnt about the different groups in the Euros and what countries are involved. We made flags for England to show our support. We enjoyed learning lots of facts about the Euros and it’s history! ⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿❤️

Our incredible Makaton choir from Foxes and Deers attended the Singing Festival! They performed beautifully and sung their hearts out to songs they have been practicing at school in their music sessions with Bev. Our amazing choir made us all so proud! ⭐️🎼🎵🎶 Everyone was blown away by their lovely signing too. We are so proud what a wonderful achievement! 🏆🙌🤩⭐️

Whilst our Choir were busy at the Singing Festival, some of Foxes and Deers shared a lovely morning having a picnic in the sunshine. We played music, made sandwiches and enjoyed some treats together. It was wonderful to be out in the sunshine enjoying a picnic together! 🧺☀️

This week we returned to our local Morrisons for a tour with their Community Lead and Champion! We decorated cupcakes in the cafe, we all made some beautiful designs and we certainly enjoyed eating them! 🍰🧁

We also had a talk about all the wonderful projects Morrisons do for the Community. It was amazing to see how we can help others in need. We learnt about the charity “Together for Short Lives”, we learnt that Morrisons help children who are poorly and how they help them have amazing experiences with their families. We also learnt about the food bank and how people donate. It was amazing to see the incredible work that the commmunity are doing to help people in need. ❤️

We also visited the florist section in Morrisons! We enjoyed looking at the beautiful flowers and smelling them. We talked about all the different types of flowers. Our Morrisons Community Lead gave us a mission to take care of a plant that was in need of some care. We took the plant back to school, and we have made sure we have watered it and put it near some sunshine. We will keep you updated to see if our plant survives with our care in Deers Class! 💐🌼🌱🪴☀️👩‍🌾🧑‍🌾💧

Our Champion this week is Kian! Kian has amazed us with his fantastic signing! Kian has been signing beautifully in the Singing Festival and in class too which is amazing! Kian has also been expressing his needs effectively and with more confidence! Well done Kian we are so proud incredibly of you! ⭐️🏆🏅

Shopkeepers for the day and our Sports Showcase! ⭐️

On our community visit this week we went to Morrisons for a very special tour with the community champion and lead. We were shown around different parts of the store, including the fish mongers, the bakery, the deli, the pizza parlour, the butchers and the cake shop. We talked to experts in each field and we learnt so many amazing facts! It was fantastic to see our pupils engaging so beautifully and asking questions, taking a proactive role in their learning. We learnt about each key section of Morrisons, and we also all had a turn on the checkout. This was an incredible experiences that made our adults smile with pride. We are so proud of ourselves, and it is clear to see from our smiling faces! It was a wonderful experience to share with one another, we sure have some future shopkeepers! 🛍🏪🛒⭐️
Our Sports Showcase was a lovely way to see our wonderful families and show them all our amazing swimming skills we have been learning over the year. We participated in our usual swimming session where we practiced swimming on our back and front and developed our floating skills. Our families were so proud of us and all our amazing swimming skills. It was beautiful to see our families cheering us on! ⭐️❤️

We also had a special visit from Zion’s baby niece, who came to watch her Uncle Zion swim! 👶👨‍👧

Thank you to all our amazing Oakwood families that support us throughout the year, we are so grateful for your kindness and support! It was lovely to see so many families attend. ❤️✨

Deer News 🦌⭐️

On our community visit this week we visited Morrisons and other shops in the local area. We shopped for items for our “Treat Trolley”. We all shared our ideas on what to buy which was fantastic! We enjoyed loading the items onto the counter and paying at the checkout, developing independence skills. We then went to the cafe in Morrisons, where we enjoyed a drink and a gingerbread man! We were so polite to the staff and remembered our “please” and “thank you” which was amazing to hear. 🧃🍪 ⭐️

This week in history, we completed our quiz and recalled our Viking knowledge, we then made a Viking longship. We have learnt so many amazing facts about Viking longships! Please ask us at home, we can tell you so much about the Vikings! We created some beautiful art work! ⭐️✨⭐️✨

In Geography we carried on with our work, where we expressed what we love about the world! ❤️🌎 We learnt about the Northern Hemisphere, the Southern Hemisphere and the equator. We discussed where we would like to go on holiday too! 🏝🏖🛫🗺🌎

We had a fantastic time climbing on the equipment developing our balance and co-ordination. We also enjoyed a game of football! It is wonderful to see our pupils developing team work skills. What a fantastic team spirit! ⭐️⚽️

In science we discussed “pushes and pulls” and we organised the cards into the correct category. It was amazing to see our pupils being independent in their thinking and applying their prior knowledge to the activity! 👩‍🔬🧑‍🔬

We love a dough disco session in Deer Class! We enjoy singing along to songs and copying the actions. We are becoming more fluent in this skill, and we even chose our own actions that we wanted to perform using symbols. 🌈

Our Champion this week is… Jayden! Jayden has been talking beautifully this week! We are so proud of his fantastic vocalisations. Jayden has also engaged well in a wide range of sessions too which is wonderful. Well done Jayden! We are incredibly proud of you! ⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨

A fun week in Deer Class! ⭐️🦌

We have had a busy week in Deer Class! We have enjoyed being back together after half-term, it has been lovely to see so many smiling and happy faces. We have engaged in a wide range of activities. Here are our moments from the week! ⭐️✨🦌

We enjoyed reading the Colour Monster story this week. We discussed emotions and we applied strategies to each emotion, to support self regulation. We talked about all the strategies we like to apply, such as deep breathing, fidget toys, a hug, a walk, reading a book and the sensory room. 🌈❤️💛💚🖤💗💙

In this weeks Georgraphy session we continued learning about the Northern Hemisphere, the Southern Hemisphere and equator. We discussed what we love about the world and expressed this to one another. It was amazing to hear so many wonderful answers. 🌎🗺

We enjoyed our swimming session this week where we developed our water confidence and worked towards our Rockhopper targets. It was amazing to see our pupils remembering skills they had learnt before, and applying them to the swimming session. We practiced swimming on our front and back and floating. 🏊‍♀️🏊🩳🌊

Our champion this week is Abdulmajid! Abdulmajid showed fantastic pupil leadership at swimming. He was so helpful and proactive. Well done Abdulmajid! We are so proud of you! ⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️

Deer Class Adventures ⭐️🦌

We have had a wonderful week in Deer Class, we have loved sharing fantastic experiences together. We participated in National Numeracy Day and lots of other lessons and activities! ⭐️

We celebrated National Numeracy Day! We made some number headbands and decorated them beautifully. We enjoyed wearing these around school and participating in maths activities. We enjoyed a wide range of maths resources and we worked on our individualised maths targets. During the session it was lovely to see our pupils playing maths games with one another, showing fantastic team work and kindness towards one another.

During this weeks history session, we continued our work on the Vikings! During the session we engaged in a writing task using colourful semantics to support our learning. We also participated in our weekly history quiz, we had some team leaders and it was wonderful to see our pupils working together! Below are some fantastic drawings that our pupils created during the session! How amazing! ⭐️

On Thursday we went to Rushall to explore the playground. It was wonderful to see our confidence in gross motor skills and our co-ordination and balance. It made our staff smile with joy to hear us all cheering on one another and supporting each other! 💙

We enjoyed our Dough Disco session, we enjoyed moving along to our favourite songs, having a boogie! We developed our fine motor skills by following and copying actions such as pinching, prodding, splatting and rolling etc… 👋🌈

Some of our pupils in Deers participated in an Athletics trip, here we played a wide range of activities, we engaged in the long jump, javelin, bean bag games, chest throws and much more! We also participated in a relay! We did an amazing job. We worked incredibly well as a team, cheering each other on and having fun! 🏅🏏👟🏓

Our champion this week is … Tommie! Tommie has shown fantastic pupil leadership this week, he has been so helpful, positive and kind, he is a fantastic role model in the classroom and in the wider community. Well done Tommie! We are so proud! ⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨

This week we had a very special job of trying on our new secondary uniform. We look so smart! It was wonderful to see our pupils trying on the new Oakwood secondary uniform ready for the fashion show next week! It was a very proud moment seeing our amazing Deer pupils in the blazer and tie! 💙🌳

This week we explored our topic “African Safari” we learnt where Kenya is located on the globe. We learnt about the capital city of Kenya (Nairobi). We loved exploring a wide range of safari animals, learning interesting facts about each species. We can’t wait to continue our topic, developing our knowledge. We learnt about terms such as ‘environment’, ‘predator’, ‘prey’ and ‘species’. It is fantastic to see our vocabulary broadening, we are using the terms we have learnt in science and applying this to a new topic, which is wonderful. We enjoyed using our plane tickets to Kenya as we jet off to Africa to explore the Safari! 🐯🦁🦓🐘🐆🐅🦏🦛🇰🇪

In History this week, we became Viking warriors! We made Viking helmets, during our craft activity. We have been learning facts about the Vikings and their invasion of Britain. We have learnt important dates in the Viking timeline. We have explored Viking longships. We are recalling and retaining so many facts about the Vikings and are even comparing them to other historical times we have learnt about! We are so proud of our wonderful Deers and how they engage in History, it has been a joy to teach history, and we definitely have future historians in Deer Class! So far this year we have learnt about the Romans, the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings! We will continue our Viking topic for a few more weeks, then next stop Egyptians! ✍️📚⭐️

On this weeks community visits, we went to Brownhills town. We went on a lovely walk over the bridge and through forest areas. We enjoyed this beautiful walk in the sunshine with our Deers family! It was amazing to see so many fantastic vocalisations. We also went to Tesco to pick up some crayons and card for our craft activities. We are becoming experts in paying at the till! We definitely have some future shop keepers in Deers too! 🏪🛒🛍

Our Champion this week is … Abdullah. Abdullah had created some beautiful work and he always talks beautifully to everyone around school, he is so polite and friendly! Well done Abdullah! ⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️

Happy Birthday Sir David Attenborough from Deer Class! 🥳🎂🎁🎉

This week we celebrated David Attenborough’s 98th birthday! We celebrated all he incredible work he does for the planet, the animals and plants. We learnt about his life and all the amazing achievements and awards he has received. We discovered that Sir David Attenborough has species named after him too! We enjoyed learning facts about Sir David Attenborough, his knighthoods, his awards, his discoveries and his documentaries. During the session we watched the best moments of his documentaries, learnt some amazing facts, wrote a “Happy Birthday” and “Thank you” letter to him, made Sir David Attenborough inspired cakes and created some beautiful art work. We also discussed how we can help and contribute towards saving the planet and preventing global warming by turning of lights and saving water.

During our week our amazing pupils have helped the wider school by being fruit monitors! We love helping our office staff and delivering fruit to different classrooms, this has helped develop our confidence and self-esteem. 🍓🍎🍊🍏🍐
