A wonderful week in Deer Class! 🦌⭐️

What a super week we have had in Deer Class, we have learnt so many new things! We have loved learning about our Spring topic “Ice Worlds”. We have engaged beautifully in activities and have followed routines well. We have had some amazing interactions this week too! 🦌✨😊

During our “Ice World” topic session we learnt about animals that live in the Arctic and Antarctica. We also learnt about their climate, features and we learnt some interesting facts too! We love learning about Ice Worlds and it is amazing to hear our pupils use the terminology they have learnt! During this session we made a “snowy owl”. 🥶❄️🧊🦉

In this weeks maths session, we focused on money, we explored coins and notes in a pirate treasure hunt tuff tray. We used our class shop to learn to exchange, we practice this skill in our community visits which is amazing! We worked on our recognition of coin and notes too! 🏴‍☠️⭐️🔑

We have enjoyed having some quiet reading time during the day where we choose a book from our class library. It is amazing to see us engaging so beautifully with stories promoting a love of reading in our classroom. 📚❤️

On Friday we took a team of pupils to a Boccia competition, this was a wonderful experience for our pupils where they met lots of other pupils from other schools, our lovely Deers made Oakwood proud, they showed incredible teamwork and participation. What an amazing achievement! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In our P.E session we focused on dance, we are learning to sequence and link our movements and we are learning what happens to our bodies when we exercise! We are communicating whether we are hot or cold! 🥵🥶

We enjoyed our fine motor session where we engaged in a range of activities such as threading, building, cutting and much more!

We love our Dough Disco session! We are very good at following the actions and we all engage beautifully and have lots of fun!

Our champion this week is Tommie! Tommie has been a super star this week! Tommie is always so kind and thoughtful to his friends, he is gentle and considerate. Tommie is a fantastic role model around school, he holds doors open and is so polite and welcoming to everyone. Well done Tommie! We are incredibly proud of you! ⭐️😊

Our January Journey 🦌⭐️

Hello everyone! We have had a busy start to January and have lots of photos to share with you. Our lovely Deers have settled in beautifully and have had so many wonderful moments already! ⭐️

Happy New Year from Deer Class! On the first week back we made some “Happy New Year” art work and we watched the London fireworks! 🎆🎇We loved celebrating our new year of 2024, and we can’t wait to see what amazing adventures we will have! ⭐️

We went on a community visit to Morrisons, we remembered all the things on our shopping list and enjoyed learning to pay at the self-service till! We then had a lovely visit to the cafe where we had a drink and a treat after a busy morning shopping! This is an amazing experience to promote our experiences of the wider world and our independence. 🛍🛒☕️🫖

We enjoyed learning about the human body in our PHSE session. We were amazed at everyone’s knowledge and we discovered some amazing facts! 🫀🫁🧠

We all engaged well in our tooth brushing session. We learnt about why it is important to brush our teeth. 🪥🦷😬

We have loved our new topic “Ice Worlds” we have engaged in story time around the topic, and have created some amazing art work of Arctic and Antarctic animals! 🐻‍❄️🥶

In P.E we were learning about our heart and what happens when we exercise. We learnt about the importance of warming up and cooling down.

Here we are in the forest! We played imaginative games and we loved playing hide and seek! It was lovely to be out in the fresh air and wrapped up warm exploring nature! 🌳🦌

What a wonderful first term we have had, it has been amazing to see our amazing Deer Class have so many magical moments together. We are so proud of everyone’s achievements and you are all Oakwood champions! We enjoyed watching the Grinch, we had some treats and enjoyed getting cosy in the Christmas spirit! 🎄🥰

On Wednesday we had a very special visitor to our classroom! How lucky are we! Father Christmas made sure he visited us even though he has been very busy getting gifts ready. We loved spending time with Father Christmas and we communicated beautifully. 🎅🏻🎄✨🥰

On Thursday we loved our Christmas party! We played musical statues and we played pass the parcel! This was amazing to share time together. We listened to festive music and enjoyed some yummy food! We loved being together and celebrating! ✨🎄

On Monday we had our Christmas Singalong! This was an incredible experience. Our families and staff at school were blown away by our amazing signing and our beautiful singing. What a lovely way to celebrate Christmas! We loved singing with our friends in Foxes, 🦊 we are so proud of everyone involved! Foxes 🦊 and Deers 🦌 did an amazing job! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We have loved our week filled with Christmas magic! It has been a pleasure to spend this special time of year with you all. A visit to see Father Christmas and his Reindeers 🎅🏻🦌

We had an incredible class trip to the Hollybush Garden Centre to see Father Christmas and his reindeers! We had an amazing time and it was a magical experience full of Christmas spirit. 🎄🎅🏻✨

We fed the reindeers which was a fantastic experience, the reindeers were called Comet and Micheal! ⭐️🦌 The reindeers loved their food and they were so happy to see Deer Class! 🥰

We visited Santa’s grotto and had some beautiful photos. Santa was amazing and he had even learnt Makaton which is amazing! We were very impressed with Santa’s signing! 🎅🏻🥰

We even went in Santa’s sleigh!

We were so excited to go! Jayden did a little happy dance before young on our trip! 🕺🎄⭐️

Before we went to see Father Christmas, we posted our letters in the Christmas post box we made! Our letters were beautiful, well done Deers!

This week we finished our topic “People Who Help Us”. We have loved learning about heroes in our community. We have talked about jobs we would like to do in our future and what careers we admire. Here are some photos of our session, we discussed all the careers, then wrote about people who help us and what they do for our community, by writing independently or using colourful semantics to build sentences.

We have loved our science session, we have learnt what animals, humans and plants need to survive. We have also learnt about a wide range of habitats too. We have learnt some key words and definitions too… organisms, bacteria, habitat and environment! 😊⭐️

We had a wonderful time having our Christmas Dinner with our friends. We enjoyed listening to the music and enjoying a yummy Christmas dinner! We requested our food beautifully! 🎄⭐️🎅🏻🥰

Tommie told us a fantastic joke this week! Tommie always comes to school with amazing jokes to tell! This weeks joke is “What did the wave say to the beach? Nothing, it just waved”. 🤩😆

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas 🦌🎄🎅🏻

We have loved our week in Deer Class. We have engaged fantastically in sessions and we are beginning to explore the period of Advent and Christmas! We have so many beautiful photos to show you.

Here is an amazing video of our incredible Deer Class singing “Last Christmas” our pupils chose this song and wanted to sing it together! Wow Deers, you were all superstars! I think it’s time to audition! 🎶🎵🎤What a lovely time we had! ✨

Here we are decorating our Christmas tree and classroom! 🎄☺️ It was a very special time to share together. We created our own Christmas decorations and it was wonderful to see our art talents! We also wrote out Christmas letters to take to Father Christmas for our class trip! Elf came to visit and has been making some lovely activities for us to engage with! ☺️ Well done Deers our classroom looks so warm and cosy ready for Christmas! 🎅🏻✨

On Monday we visited Pelsall Book Exchange, where Pat a lovely lady from the Book Exchange read us a fantastic Christmas Story. We listened and engaged beautifully, there were some wonderful decorations and we even were gifted some special reindeer food for Christmas Eve! 🦌🎅🏻🎄📚

We have been learning about Diwali throughout November, and this week we explored some beautiful Diwali clothing. Our pupils in Deer Class were fascinated with the colours and detail of the clothing. ✨🎆🎇

Our swimming sessions have been fantastic. We have progressed well with our Rockhopper targets! We are so proud of Deer Class! 🏊‍♀️🏊🩱🩳

Our Champion this week is … Zion! Zion has been so kind, thoughtful and helpful. Zion did some amazing dancing and singing in our Christmas song and we are so proud! Well done Zion you are a true champion! ✨⭐️✨⭐️✨

Last week our Champion was Abdullah! Abdullah has been so helpful and polite and has been using his beautiful voice around school. He always holds doors open for people and always uses his manners which is wonderful! Well done Abdullah! ✨⭐️✨⭐️✨

Deer Class News Update ⭐️😊

Wow what a super week we have had in Deer Class. We have engaged in a wide range of sessions such as history, maths, English, first aid, science, P.E and road safety, we have had so much fun!

We loved history this week, we learnt about the Roman invasion and Roman life in Britain. We have been amazed by how many fantastic facts we can recall! We are experts in the Romans now! ⭐️ During this session we wrote or used colourful semantics to recall facts about the invasion of Britain. We also made an angry face for how the celts must have felt when the Romans invaded!

We loved magic bucket this week! This helps build our attention and listening skills. We looked at some amazing toys in the bucket and we also engaged in ice cream splat! 🍦

Over the last few weeks we have celebrated and explored Diwali! We made some beautiful diya lamps, completed some Diwali craft and learnt about Diwali and how people celebrate.

We loved our table cricket session this week, we remembered the positions we needed to play and we even remembered the game rules from last week. This week we split into teams and had a competition!

This week in maths we explored 2D and 3D shapes and we learnt to differentiate between the two categories. We were amazed with Deers shape knowledge!

This week a fire engine from Aldridge Fire Station came to visit Oakwood! This was a fantastic experience and we even got to sit in the fire engine like professional fire fighters! Here are our pictures!

We enjoyed our trip to Tesco this week, we collected items on our shopping list and especially enjoyed looking at all the Christmas items in the shops, this made Deer Class very happy! 🙈☺️

Our champion this week is… Joshua! Joshua has been engaging in a wider range of sessions this week, and Joshua blew us away in maths with his shape knowledge! Well done Joshua, super engagement! We are so incredibly proud of you! 😊⭐️

Deer Class Adventures ⭐️🦌

Wow! What a fantastic week in Deer Class. We have achieved so much all in one week!

We had a fantastic day on Friday celebrating Children In Need. We made Pudsey headbands to wear, we enjoyed a Pudsey themed tuff tray too! We even went to Oakpark in our Children In Need clothes and headbands! 😊⭐️What an amazing cause to support, this is a very special day that is close to all our hearts. ❤️

Over the last two weeks we have been learning about Remembrance, we have made some beautiful poppies to remember all the brave soldiers that fought for our country. We spent time reflecting and remembering those in the war efforts. We explored ways in which we pay our respects. We learnt that poppies are a special symbol of remembrance. We visited the Cenotaph in Pelsall to lay our Poppies on the beautiful display of remembrance.

On Monday we had a special visit from “A stars” where we completed a road safety walk within our local community. This was a wonderful opportunity to practice out road safety skills and danger awareness. We learnt 4 very important steps to helping us to cross, these were, “stop, look, listen and think”. We all listened very well and showed good knowledge of dangers. We are so proud of Deer Class for showing excellent listening skills and for being wonderful students of Oakwood out in the local community.

We also went to Pelsall Community Centre on the same day! We were busy bees! 🐝 We enjoyed being part of the community, we were so polite and remembered our manners very well.

This week we engaged incredibly well in our science session, where we learnt about plants and animals in our local environment. We enjoyed a classroom bug hunt! We ticked our scientist sheets when we found the correct minibeast. We even counted the legs on the minibeasts too! We had a fantastic conversation about our local environment and what animals and plants we might find!

We had our first table cricket session! This was a fantastic opportunity to develop turn-taking and sharing skills. We learnt the rules of table cricket and listened well to our instructor. It was amazing to see so many smiling faces! 😊

Our Champion this week is … Jayden! Jayden amazed us in swimming, he showed more confidence and listened well to his adults. It was fantastic to see Jayden determined to have a go. Well done Jayden! We are so proud of you! ⭐️✨⭐️✨

A super 3 days back! 😊✨

We have had a lovely few days back at school and we loved hearing about the half-term adventures in Deer Class! 🦌⭐️

We enjoyed our history session this week where we learnt about the Roman invasion of Britain and Boudicca. We answered quiz questions and had some fantastic discussions! 😊

We created some beautiful firework art, we learnt about the history of Bonfire night too! 🎆🎇

Our Champion this week is… Abdulsalam! Abdulsalam has shown a fantastic work ethic in maths and writing. He is remembering finger spaces with prompting too! We are so proud of you Abdulsalam! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A fun week in Deer Class ⭐️🦌

We have had a lovely week with lots of activities! We shared some amazing moments this week and we have developed our friendships too! We have been very busy this week! Take a look at our pictures for the week! ✨

We loved our community visit on Monday, we visited Tesco and went shopping to collect items for our cooking sessions this week. We loved sharing this experience together, we looked at lots of items and identified things on our shopping list. We also payed at the till and we practiced our maths skills of knowing how many items we needed for 11 pupils and how much items cost. We payed at the till and helped to bag our items. This was an amazing opportunity for us to develop important life skills.

We had some very special visitors Jenny and Aimee on Wednesday from the National Literacy Trust. We explored some exciting new books and talked about our favourite books and how reading made us feel using verbalisations and ALD boards. We also discussed and drew our dream library! We had some amazing ideas and it was lovely to see our creativity and imagination come to life. It was clear to see a passion for reading in Deer Class! 📚⭐️

We enjoyed cooking this week! We learnt about the importance of hygiene in the kitchen and we washed our hands following adult modelling and instructions. We all shared the resources and participated in turn-taking which was amazing to see. We also engaged in measuring to develop our maths skills. I think we have some future careers in cooking in Deer Class! 👩‍🍳🧑‍🍳🍰

We enjoyed a Pumpkin Party at the end of the week to celebrate our hard work and all our achievements this half-term. We are so proud of all our pupils in Deer Class for settling in so well and forming fantastic relationships with both staff and peers. It is such a joy to teach Deer Class! ☺️⭐️🦌

Our Champion this week is … Andre! Andre has been doing some fantastic communicating at school, we are so proud! Andre has been answering questions in history and has been so kind to his friends. Well done Andre! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fantastic Firefighters! 🧯🚒👩‍🚒👨‍🚒

We have had such an exciting week in Deer Class! We have enjoyed a wide range of sessions, and we have seen some lovely friendships blossom this week which is amazing!

We had a fantastic time time at Aldridge Fire Station. What an amazing experience this was. We looked at the fire engine, heard the sirens, examined all the interesting equipment, we looked at the training areas were the fire fighters practiced their skills, and we even tried on their helmet and jacket. We loved this experience and we learnt so much. This even inspired some career aspirations for the future! 🚒👩‍🚒👨‍🚒🧯✨

We enjoyed our forest trip this week. We enjoyed the outdoors and we created imaginative games to play with our friends. Andre made a game up of being a Roman statue, this was very fun and this also linked to our history topic. We loved seeing our pupils creativity and imagination come to life in the forest! 🌳

Here we are developing our fine motor skills in our English lesson to prepare for our writing activity! We showed excellent turn-taking skills and it was wonderful to see our team work. ✨⭐️

Magic Bucket was fun this week! We love this time of the week and we see so many amazing facial expressions and hear some beautiful verbalisations. 🪄✨

We loved our history session this week. It is amazing to see how much we have learnt since we started this topic of the Romans in September. We are answering questions and recalling key facts which is brilliant! We made some Roman helmet mosaics this week. 🏛🏺

We have loved spending time with each other, we have played board games where we are listening to instructions and sharing with our friends. What an amazing time we have together in Deer Class! 🦌✨

Tommie and Jayden’s friendship has blossomed beautifully this week. It is incredible to see them sharing time together and making each other laugh. 💙

Our Champion this week is Abdulmajid! Abdulmajid has been so kind to his friends and has played beautifully with them. Abdulmajid is always so helpful and loves helping with jobs. Well done Abdulmajid, we are so incredibly proud of you! ⭐️✨⭐️
