Fletcher and the Falling Leaves πŸƒ 🍁

This week we have started our Autumn activities. We have enjoyed exploring our interactive Autumn displays and discussing the objects and colours that we can see. We have a wonderful match table full of autumn themed activities and we have really enjoyed accessing this during our free time.

As part of our activities linked to our story Fletcher and the Falling Leaves, we made some beautiful leaf sun catchers using our autumn leaves and some coloured cellophane.

During our cooking session this week we practiced our fine motor skills when mixing and creating the spikes on our bread hedgehogs! We used raisins for eyes and we all got involved when creating our spikes.

We also explored some autumn themed maths activities as part of our problem solving session. We sang β€œ1,2,3 little acorns” and counted all of the children in a line. When the squirrel takes the acorns to his store the children really enjoyed running back to their seats.

Next week will be our last week of the half term and what a wonderful first half term it has been! We will carry on with our Autumn activities and look forward to our Pumpkin Party on Tuesday! On Wednesday we will be completing our sponsored walkathon as a class as part of our 50th birthday celebrations!

All About the Moon πŸŒ™

This week we have carried on with our Earth and Space topic 🌌

We have been learning about quantity this week and some of us have been focussing on taking away and β€œless than”. We themed this around our space topic by counting our planets and making our rockets πŸš€ β€œzoom” to the correct planet.

During our phonics session this week we learnt the β€œn” sound. We enjoyed listening to the phonics fairy read the story β€œEmergency” πŸš’πŸŒ™ and explored items beginning with the β€œn” sound and completed our independent activities with our adults.

We have looked at the moon πŸŒ™ this week and used marbles in flour to create the craters that can be found on the moon. We dropped them from different heights to make different sized craters. We then used some textured paint to make our moon pictures on black card which were really effective.

We got creative when making our wonderful planet wreathes using some black paint and our cut out planets.

We have been building on our play and interaction skills this week by completing activities with and alongside our peers, take a look at what we have been up to. We have been doing some fantastic sharing and turn taking which our adults are extremely proud of 🌟

Next week we will be doing something slightly different and starting our autumn and harvest activities. We will be reading the story β€œFletcher and the Falling Leaves” and exploring our environment, searching for autumn leaves 🍁 pinecones and much ore! We have our checklists at the ready!

Blast Off πŸš€

This week we have had a brilliant time carrying on with our space story 🌌

We showed brilliant engagement during our problem solving sessions this week, using our counting and number skills to solve problems. We practiced counting backwards whilst we were waiting for our teddy to blast off into space! We also used our stretchy clothes to bounce our stars 🌟 into space. We sang a well known favourite β€œFive Little Men in a Flying Saucer” where we started to look at taking one away from an amount.

During our cooking session this week we made some edible rockets using strawberries πŸ“ marshmallows, bananas 🍌 and melon 🍈 we used our knives to cut our fruits and carefully threaded them onto our skewer.

Today we worked together to raise money for MacMillan by decorating our own individual cakes as well as a beautiful class cake! Take a look at our brilliant robin cake that won the cake competition alongside our Caterpillar class friends.

Next week we are looking forward to continuing our space topic and looking in more detail at our planets with some lovely crafting activities.

We hope you have a lovely weekend! πŸ˜ƒ

Meet The Planets πŸͺ 🌍 🌝 🌌

This week we have thrown ourselves into our new Earth and Space topic. We have met some of the planets in our new story β€œMeet the Planets” and have been on a journey into space on a rocket ship.

We boarded the rocket together using our intergalactic passports and made our way to our seats. We all joined in with the countdown from 10 before zooming into space and making our way through the galaxy, past lots of the planets in our solar system 🌌 we then worked together to decorate a big, 3D rocket ship ready for our own journey.

As part of our sensory exploration session we explored the planets in the space themed water beads and made our space men jump through our gloopy moon slime. We used our space blanket as a base to explore the planets and we worked together to explore their shapes and see if we could name any of the planets we could see.

We were so glad to be able to restart our swimming sessions this week! We focussed on getting ourselves back into our swimming routine and building our confidence in the water after being away for such a long time. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and it was lovely to see our friends at the main Oakwood site.

As part of our cooking session this week we revisited the cooking room at Rushall School. We used rice cakes and Cheerios to make some edible moons. We used a knife to spread white chocolate spread onto our rice cake before carefully utilising our fine motor skills when picking up and placing the small Cheerios onto our moon base to create craters.

Next week we will be carrying on with our Meet the Planets story and we will get the opportunity to meet a few more of the planets in our solar system and even become spacemen and women!

What Makes Me a Me?

We have had another lovely week at school, building relationships and settling into our new routines. We have added more structure this week and we have responded well to this.

In our maths sessions this week we have been looking at 2D shapes and some of us have been looking at their properties. We showed brilliant engagement and participation when playing a shapes game on the interactive screen before moving on to our groups.

As part of our phonics session this week we learnt the β€œm” and β€œch” sound and enjoyed completing activities around our Story Time Phonics story β€œMunch”.

Next we are looking forward to starting our Earth and Space topic by kicking it off with our book β€œMeet the Planets” where we will work our way through space in a variety of sensory ways to kick start the new topic.

Welcome Back! πŸŽ‰

Welcome back to school everyone!

It is the start of a new school year in a new class and with new people and we are very excited to start making memories, learning and having fun!

We hope you have all had a brilliant summer holiday and have been able to do lots of lovely things and we are so pleased to welcome you back as a Robin this year!

This week has been all about getting back into our routine, getting to know our new friends and adults and settling back in to being at school again and having to get up on time which I know some of you have struggled with (staff included I’m sure!)

Take a look at some of the things we have been up to this week and we look forward to seeing what next week brings as we read our story β€œWhat Makes Me a Me?”
