💖 Our final week 💖

Our final week as Woodpeckers has certainly been a lovely one. It has been filled with lots of fun activities and treats to end for the summer holidays☀️🎉

We had a very exciting visit from the ice cream van at the beginning of the week, which all the boys (and staff) were so excited for🍦

During the week we got to look after and bathe some dolls, which the boys really enjoyed. They were all so gentle and caring. Well done boys👶🏻

We have had lots of fun playing and enjoying the sunshine using all the skills we have learned in PE! 😎

To finish off the week, Heidi treated everyone to a McDonalds. The boys were buzzing with anticipation and all placed their orders making sure she knew exactly what they wanted. What a treat. Thank you Heidi🍔🍟

Overall, it has been a lovely last week in Woodpeckers, and we hope that all of the boys have the best summer holidays. We are all in new classes in September, so it will be a big adventure for us all! Enjoy your new classes in September boys, we will miss you 💖

🧑🏽‍🍳Penultimate Week🧑🏽‍🍳

This week has flown by! It was lovely to see/speak to Woodpecker parents and be able to celebrate the progress that all our boys have made! 🎉

We have been very creative this week making taste safe playdough, creating patterns using fancy hole punchers, making our own pasta/cereal necklaces, making aeroplanes and decorating biscuits. Everybody joined in and at some points, we even had all 4 boys sat together. This shows how far they’ve come since we became Woodpeckers back in November 💜

We had great fun in P.E this week. Our class love an assault course, especially when it is Mission Impossible!! Maybe you can make your own one at home?🏃🏽

What a fabulous week celebrating our successes and bonding as a team. We are very proud of you Woodpeckers. Let’s see what fun we can have in our last week altogether 😊

🏠 A full house 🏠

We were back to a full class this week with everybody in! 💯

Our focus for this week was developing our turn taking skills and building sentences. These skills are vital for reducing frustration and we have seen a real improvement in Woodpeckers class as a result 😃

We have had a carousel of different activities and the boys have had a go with each activity to develop their problem solving and resilience 💭

Millie led some more wonderful magic bucket sessions with a small group and Rayen had his own 1 to 1 session 🪄

Check out the rest of the fun activities that we’ve explored this week! 🎉

We had a shorter week due to class closures and again, we really appreciate the support that we have had from parents with this 💖

🤫 Quiet! 🤫

It’s been a quiet week here in Woodpeckers, which has never happened before. Let’s see what we’ve got up to! 😊

Our problem solving activities this week required lots of sharing as Ayan and Rayen loved the number tiles. We had some wonderful communication and negotiation as a result ➗

We had some more relaxing moments with our books and transport toys 📖

In Music this week, we revisited the seaside. This repetition helps our working memory and embeds skills. Bev always makes our music lessons very interactive and engaging too! ⚓️

Kingfisher class kindly loaned us some of their space hoppers and giant spinning top. These are fab for sensory feedback and helping regulate our nervous systems ⚖️

We would like to end our blog this week by wishing Eid Mubarak to our families that celebrate, we hope you had a lovely day! 😃

😊 Bouncing around 😊

Our week has been non-stop here in Woodpeckers! We’ve had lots of exciting experiences added into our schedule this week and our class handled it so well 😀

We started our week with practicing our signs and learning more about feelings. It’s good to share how you feel! 👍

Lisa got us some new toys and Ayan had a great time constructing and following the instructions. He is a fantastic engineer, exploring and building 🏠

One of our amazing teaching assistants here at Oakwood arranged a special treat for the whole site – two bouncy castles! Everyone was so excited. Our children love any opportunities to move their bodies so this is was perfect 😄

We enjoyed some sensory water play this week with colourful fizzing bath bombs and some crazy foam soap. Water is always a hit with Woodpeckers! 🌊

Our week ended, as always, with Bev, our imaginations and a trip to the seaside. All the boys joined in and played instruments or had a go at throwing or rolling the beach ball. It got us excited for our summer holiday break! 🏖️

We also had our school photos on Thursday, check your child’s bag to see the results! 📸

🍓🍏 Healthy Eating Week 🍏🍓

We kicked off our week with some writing. Our adults modelled what we wanted to write and then practiced our handwriting and pencil grip ✏️

Our class have played so well together this week, either with one another or parallel next to each other. This was really hard for Woodpeckers children at first, so we are very proud of them! 🥹

Our problem solving session was a carousel of exciting activities. All the boys were engaged and tried hard 🧮

Millie gave us a treat this week and we had rocket lollies to cool us down! They were yummy 🧊🧊

It was healthy eating week at school so we had a go at making some fruit salads. We looked at all the different fruits, sniffed and squeezed them all. Some of the boys were even brave enough to have a taste. This activity is fantastic at provoking interesting language and new sensations.

We are back to Forest Thursday for the rest of the summer term now and the trees provided welcome shade from the sunshine. We explored the forest at our own pace and then had our snacks and drinks around the fire pit 🔥

🌞 Sunshine 🌞

We have had a very busy week of learning and exploring in Woodpeckers this week with lots of sunshine and warm weather to add to the fun ☀️

The boys have all enjoyed exploring TenTown in our problem solving sessions and are already mastering activities based on the number 4. Great work boys ☺️

Roman and Lukiee have been playing so nicely together, exploring our endless amount of train tracks and sharing well. Rayen joined in on the action and they had a great time building lots ⭐️

On Wednesday we had our ‘cooking’ session. We made Angel Delight and had 3 flavours to choose from – banana, strawberry and butterscotch 🍌

Everyone followed all of the instructions and independently put the mixtures together with only a little input from the adults. Very well done boys💫🍓

We also had strawberry jelly to explore. This created some lovely dialogue between the adults and children.

We went to the forest this week and had great fun exploring! It was a lovely sunny day so we decided to have a little picnic with our snacks. To end the week, Bev came in for our beach themed music session. It was absolutely fantastic!

Overall, another fabulous week in Woodpeckers, well done boys ✨💫

🌟 Final week of half term 🌟

We have had a jam packed week this week and had lots of fun! 🤩

We had some early morning maths work on TenTown. Our whole class really engage with this and can’t wait to choose the numbers and games 🔢

Problem solving is a Woodpeckers favourite.. waking our brains up and challenging ourselves 💭

We continued to explore the feeling of happy from our ‘Colour Monster’ story. Everyone had a go at painting and concentrated really well! ☀️

Our Sports Showcase, sadly, could not go ahead due to a technical problem with our swimming pool. To make up for it, our lovely class teaching assistants Nicki and Lisa organised an amazing water play session on our Shipwreck playground. We had so much fun splashing each other and playing with the water toys 🌊💦

Our week ended with Bev teaching us how to use the Cello. It was so big and heavy! Everyone listened to Bev’s instructions – playing fast, slow, quiet and loud. I think we could have some future musicians in Woodpeckers class 🎶

Now it’s time for half term and a well-earned rest.

Don’t forget that next half term, there is no swimming – we will be back in the forest on Thursdays! See you all in June 🙌🏽

📋 A full week! 📋

Routines are key in our school. It helps us to feel safe and secure, knowing what to expect each day. We are working hard on coming together each morning – starting with our good morning routine 🌅

One of our sea themed stories this term is The Rainbow Fish. This is a lovely story all about sharing and friendship. You can watch it at home too! 📺

We created our own Rainbow Fish to add to our Under The Sea theme display. We love collaging with different materials and choosing our favourite colours 🌈

During our technology session, we were using remote control cars to practice our directions and programming skills. All the boys loved exploring round the classroom, making their cars move 🚗

We had a little photoshoot whilst waiting to go swimming.. everybody say cheese!! 🧀📸

And then our week ended with some violin playing! We are so lucky to have Bev provide these opportunities for us. Heidi even tried to have a go. Bev showed us how to hold the violin correctly and how to make those beautiful string sounds 🎻

👉My turn, your turn 👈

This week involved lots of group bonding now as a class of 4. We’ve all been getting to know each other and learning what one another likes/dislikes.

We all enjoyed the sunshine out on our track playground ☀️

We’ve enjoyed some yummy lunches and we have practiced our fine motor skills using cutlery. Some of our children have been practicing their signing to ask for more or for help cutting.. well done boys! 🍴

Over the last few weeks, we’ve enjoyed exploring Ten Town in our number sessions. We started at Zero and it’s a tricky concept to get our heads round. We have had a go at sorting objects using zero. It wasn’t as easy as it looks, but everyone tried really hard 0️⃣

One of our favourite times of the day is our meditation. We do this before lunchtime as it calms us down to be ready for transitioning through the school and into the busy dinner hall 🧘🏽

In swimming this week, Ellie turned swimming instructor. She had the whole class holding onto the sides and practicing kicking their legs, super fast and then very slow. They were fabulous and had a great time! 🏊🏽‍♂️

We ended our week with Bev’s music lesson. Woodpeckers are working hard on finding the beat in our music and as you can see. Roman was fantastic at this 🥁🪘

What a lovely fun filled week – well done to all our Woodpeckers! 💕
