In maths this term we will be looking at the place value of numbers and addition and subtraction. This week we looked at all of the different strategies we have used to help us solve problems. We used ten frames, part-whole models, cubes and bead strings. We used the different manipulatives and compared which strategies helped us the most.

This week the focus of our community visit was to look at the price of items in the shop. As we walk around the shop we chose things that we liked to eat and drink and then looked at the price. We read the numbers on the price tag and used the vocabulary โpoundsโ and โpenceโ and identified the symbol โยฃโ.

A new specialist room this year is the STEM room. This stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. We went in to the stem room to see what is in there and what kinds of sessions we will be doing throughout the year.

Over the past couple of weeks we have been out on the minibus to the shops to buy things for our class. In Morrisons, we had a look at the items in different aisles and picked our favourite.

We are so lucky in school to have a resident artist to support us with our art work. When he isnโt at school, Dan also illustrates books so look out for some of his books in the shops.

We are so lucky at Oakwood to have a range of different bikes and sit on scooters. Not only are they really fun to use but it is helping to develop strength in our legs and core. It also help develop special awareness in moving around the playground.

Friday was the return of the treat trolley! We enjoyed going down to the trolley with our treat money to choose something we would like. We brought money in to school in our money wallets and spent it at the tuck shop. We could choose between tasty things to eat or pens and pencils and small toys.

Over the summer holiday, a lot of rubbish has blown on to our school site. We spoken about this in class and the pupils said that it looks messy. We also discussed that a lot of animals live in our school grounds too and they might get hurt by the rubbish over the floor. So to care for our school and make it look a nicer place we credited to make it better. Kate got litter picker grabbers for us and we went out and found as many bits of rubbish we could and put it in the bin. We managed to fill 4 black bags. Not only have we made our school look better and cared for the animals, but we also had lots of fun and wanted to go out again the next day!

Over the past couple of weeks in music we have been looking at whether the music is loud or quiet and also high notes or low notes. They have learnt to look at musical notation to help decide which volume to play and listening carefully to when there are high notes and low notes. We then played these on a range of musical instruments.
